This is a Call for Artists to take part in UPSTART’s Dare Festival 5 The theme of the commissions is 'We Demand A Better Future'
Selected pieces will have performances at Shoreditch Town Hall, 25th-27th Feb. 2021
6 Artists or Companies receive £1000 seed commission to go towards making a 30-minute in-development piece.
They will also receive mentoring from Upstart’s AD and Producer and attend 3 artist development sessions
The Deadline is December 2nd at Midday!
Of the commissions, 4 will be reserved for artists from the following background or circumstances.
1 x Commission for working/under/benefit class artists
1 x Commision for LGBTQ+ artist
1 x Commision for artist of colour from minority ethnic background
1 x Commision for artists who are disabled / whose day-to-day activity is inhibited by long term illness or health condition
Kelly Horne’s Online Movement Sessions
Join movement director and teacher Kelly Horne for her Online Movement Sessions, starting Friday 27th at 10am. The sessions will last for 4 weeks and it is pay what you can! No movement experience is needed, go to explore mindful and playful movement practice.

Seeking 3 multifaceted movement performers for exploration in movement (R&D) for their project “Ludala”. Exploring ‘Black Love’ and ‘Black Joy’ through text/poetry, fabrics, music and physical theatre

'On Cloud Nine' at The White Bear Theatre
Live digital performances streamed from The White Bear theatre. Written and performed by Mai Weisz and directed by Laura Wohlwend. The shows will take place on Monday 7th December at 4pm and 7.30pm. The show also has a tiered ticketing model where you pay what you choose. £5/£10/£20.
"On Cloud Nine flows in a stream-of-consciousness form and portrays moments of the writer’s life that overpower her nights. Imprisoned within her own mind and unable to fall asleep, Maia is re-experiencing frantic episodes on a quest to find the wholeness of her existence."
Young Barbican Nights x Queer House Party
QHP creates an interactive online space through zoom with House Party DJs, performances and Kikis. This week they are celebrating the Michael Clarke: Cosmic Dancer exhibition which will resume on December 3rd.
There will be a Michael Clark costume competition - winner receives tickets to the exhibition.
QHP is on Saturday November 28th @ 21:00pm and tickets cost only £2.50

ENOAs Open Call for Artist Residencies
ENOA offering a 12-18 month residency at some of their schools across Europe. The residencies will take place from February 2021 - Feb/May 2022. ENOA want to have equal access and better inclusion in the Opera world. Applicants should be European artists but do not need significant opera experience and there is no age limit. There are 8 residency opportunities available across 5 institutions across Europe. Plus a mobility grant of €5700, which will cover travel, food and accommodation to visit the institutions.
The Yard’s Live Lab
The Live Lab by The Yard Theatre is looking to support 6 artists to develop as directors and work on a new show idea over 4 months. The programme begins with 3 weeks of teaching from Katie Mitchell followed by weekly masterclasses from leading UK theatre practitioners.
There is a bursary of £1200 + £500 fee for a week of R&D in April 2021 alongside free rehearsal space, a budget of £1000 for collaborators, and the opportunity to share their ideas on The Yard’s stage. You don’t have to call yourself a director, but must have a passion for leading a team and creating new work.
3 x places held for those who are of Black African, African Caribbean, South Asian, East Asian, South West Asian, North African, Arab or Latinx heritage, or those artists from communities who are marginalised for their race.
1 x place held for an artist who identifies as d/Deaf or disabled
Deadline is Monday 30th November @ 10am to apply

Willie Gowans Collaborator Call Out
Looking for collaborators to explore domestic violence using poetry to devise a one act distanced performance for two characters. The poems can be deconstructed to provide a narrative exploration of the theme. Email firstname.lastname@example.org to be put in touch.
