Additional Information

MGC Futures Fund

  • Artists across the theatre spectrum can apply for Bursaries between £500 - £5000 to support their career. The support also includes mentoring from industry professionals

  • The bursary should be spent on career development through the realisation of new creative project

  • They are looking to support people who have already shown a commitments to the theatre industry and can demonstrate how the bursary will help take them to the next stage

  • The fund is open to anyone working in the performing arts

  • Applications open on the 16th December and close 12 noon on the 7th January 2021 and the form can be found on their website

  • The fund is supported by a number of patrons including Michael Grandage, Olivia Coleman, and Phoebe-Waller Bridge among others

  • This is the fifth round of the bursary and previous receipts can be found on their website, so you can see the range of disciplines they have previously supported

  • In addition to these bursaries there are also other unique bursary opportunities

  • The Stephanie Arditti Bursary will go to support a costume supervisor

  • The Lyric Hammersmith Bursary for a Literary Associate

  • The Nicole Kidman Bursary will go to an emerging female director or producer

  • The Pilot Theatre Bursary for a Creative Assistant who will work with Pilot Theatre to plan and deliver, workshops and projects with young people

Theatre Deli & Dark Yellow Dot - Pandemic In The City Artist Call-Out

  • 10 artists or groups will be selected to create original art or performance inspired by the pandemic, lockdown and possible post-pandemic futures.

  • Selected artists will receive a £500 fee, support, and mentorship

  • Any artistic medium / practice will be considered

  • Performance work should last no longer than 30 mins

  • 3+ hours of training & support by Theatre Deli & Dark Yellow Dot

  • Performed/exhibited live at Theatre Deli Broadgate in April/May 2021

  • This is a paid opportunity and it is free to apply

  • If you are new or emerging, are black or an ethnic minority or may have never been selected by Theatre Deli or Dark Yellow Dot before, we actively encourage you to apply for this opportunity.

1927 Bursary

  • 1927 are offering 5 small bursaries for Kent based artists making Contemporary performance along with up to 4 mentoring sessions

  • 1927 use animation, live music and theatre to tell their stories so they are particularly interested to hear from creatives who are experimental or looking to challenge form

  • You need to have proof that you have made work in the past

  • The work should be original, political, or experimental

  • It doesn’t have to be theatre, it could be an album, a short film, a mix of form

  • You do not have to be a full time artists or have any training, anyone can apply

  • The work should ideally take place between February - July 2021

  • Send in a video or written application by 5pm 11th January. All the details for the application can be found on the website

Greater Manchester Artist Hub - Originate Fund

  • Opportunities for artists based in Greater Manchester who want to develop new performance work in the first half of 2021.

  • 3 Awards that each include the following:

  • £5,000 cash investment

  • A package of bespoke support in kind drawn across GM Artist Hub partners

  • An opportunity for you to present your work-in-progress to a public audience

  • Post-sharing feedback from GM Artist Hub partners including exploring potential for the work to be taken to full production in future

  • This fund is for new performance projects to be developed over spring and summer 2021, ending with a work-in-progress presentation of the work to either a public or an invited audience.

  • Projects should be rooted in theatre, dance, circus, live art or interdisciplinary performance practice. (Can include other elements like Music or Visual Art but due to the make-up and skillset of GM Aritst Hub, they may not be able to offer meaningful support to projects that don’t fit within a performance context.)

  • In order to be eligible for this fund, you must:

  • Be over 18 years of age

  • Make work in a theatre, dance, circus, live art or interdisciplinary practice context

  • Be based in Greater Manchester (ie Bolton, Bury, Oldham, Rochdale, Stockport, Tameside, Trafford, Wigan, Manchester or Salford)

  • Have at least three years experience within the industry outside of an educational context

  • Have previously shown at least one professional production to a paying audience

  • Have an idea for a new piece of work that has not previously received either National Lottery Project Grants funding or more than £1,000 cash investment from a GM Artist Hub partner organisation

  • To Apply: Fill out the expression of interest form on their website by Sunday 10th January 2021

Yard Theatre - Live Drafts | Open Call - Climate Works

  • Yard Theatre is looking for 4 artists to create work responding to the ongoing climate crisis

  • Open to artists of any art form to apply

  • You will get a weeks worth of space in February to create a 20 minute piece to be performed at the Yard Theatre

  • You will receive mentoring and support through the process from the creative and marketing team at the Yard

  • There is £500 fee for the lead creator and £500 for collaborators

  • They give a great list of example themes that you can find on their website and twitter. Including: Capitalism, Aviation, Plastics, Farming, Utopia, Conservation

  • Application deadline is 4th January at 12 noon

45North - Commission Scheme

  • 45North are offering 3 seed commissions to trans and gender non-conforming artists looking to develop an idea for live theatre.

  • This scheme will be curated with and facilitated by Tabby Lamb and the 3 artists will receive:

  • £1000 fee

  • Up to 1 week of rehearsal or office space (London Based)

  • Up to £750 for collaborator fees

  • 15 hours of mentorship and one-to-one support by Tabby Lamb

  • The artists commissioned will be asked to work on their idea part-time across 6-weeks through March and April 2021, with the aim of creating what we call a 0.5 draft by the end of the scheme.

  • 0.5 Draft is a draft to show the general shape of the show giving an idea of pace, form, style, character and dialogue (where needed!)

  • 45North include all forms of gender diversion under the banner of gender non-comforning artists, including Trans Women, Trans Femme, Trans Men, Trans Masc, Non-binary people, and especially encourage QTPOC artists to apply.

MENA Arts UK Commissions - One Minute Films

  • MENA (Middle East / North African / Surrounding Areas) are commissioning 8 artists (or teams) with a connection to Middle East, North African or surrounding areas to capture their work on film.

  • Each winner will receive £1000 to create a one minute (60 seconds) work that is filmed, responding to the question:

  • ‘How should the MENA+ arts community celebrate what we have in common?’

  • You don’t have to be a filmmaker, just make work that can be captured digitally.

  • Whether you’re a poet, playwright, performer, director, musician, sound designer, dancer, film-maker, animator, multimedia artist, puppeteer - or anything else that can be captured on film.

  • Recordings can be done through any medium (eg smartphone, camera, or digital software), although they are expected to be of broadcast quality.

  • Submissions are only open to members of the MENA Arts UK directory, but signing up to that is free and can be done on their website. If applying in a team, every member must be signed up to the directory.

  • Applications can also be found on the website, and are open until December 29th at 12pm.

  • All applicants will be informed of the result of their applications by January 11th.

  • Selected artists will then have from January 12th - February 15th to create their work and send it in.

  • Commissioned works will then be released digitally in March 2021

Open School East - Call for 2021-22 Associate Artists

  • Open School East is an independent art school and community space that focuses on collective learning through the arts, based in Margate, Kent.

  • They are seeking applications from emerging artists, makers, producers, researchers and writers of all generations to join their independent, self-directed and outward-facing development programme.

  • Open School East is committed to anti-racism, LGBTQI+ rights and neuro-inclusion, and particularly welcome applications from individuals who identify with this ethos.

  • The Associates Programme is a free development programme offering a critical, informal and non-competitive environment in which to develop your practice and expand your networks.

  • It runs for a year from April 2021 - March 2022 and is principally self-directed, creating platforms to experiment and meet long-lasting collaborators and peers.

  • Associates are provided with:

  • A shared workspace, accessible 24/7;

  • Weekly tuition and mentorship from internationally renowned practitioners, theorists and curators;

  • The tools and means to conceive and deliver a public programme of workshops and events around your practice and shared interests;

  • Opportunities to showcase work;

  • Critical, pastoral and practical support;

  • Seed-funding to develop, research or initiate a project.

  • There are 14 associate positions available for emerging practitioners of different generations, with or without a BA, MA or formal qualifications or training.

Brockley Jack Monologue Call-Out

  • This is open to writers or creatives with a strong link to South East London

  • Brockley Jack is looking for monologues based on the theme Past, Present, Future

  • 3 winning pieces will be awarded £500 and support to develop the monologue. They will then be rehearsed and turned into short filmed March / April 2021

  • The films will be made free of charge to view online

  • Please make sure you read their terms and conditions before you apply

  • Entries should be no longer than 10 minutes, and should link to ONE of the themes i.e Past, Present or Future

  • You also need to briefly explain your connection to south east London in the application

  • Deadline is 5pm Friday 15th January 2021

Pentabus Theatre Company

  • Looking for 8-10 young writers (16-25yo) to join their free 7-month writing course.

  • Supported through monthly sessions and workshops to write a short play which pentabus will professionally produce as part of their Young Writers festival.

  • Particularly interested in Rural writers as Pentabus is the UK's leading rural theatre company

  • Tuesdays 7-8:30pm every 3 weeks

Boundless Theatre Casting Call Out

  • This opportunity is for actors aged 18 - 25

  • Boundless Theatre are looking for 3 ensemble performers and 1 lead actor for a Trans woman / tran feminine role named Epoch

  • All roles are for Boundless Theatre’s podcast Radio Elusia Season 2.

  • Deadline for application for all roles is the 13th January 2021

  • For the ensemble roles you must have

  • Strong vocal skills

  • Vocal age of under 25

  • Based in london

  • To apply you will need to submit a self tape of the audition piece found on the website. Along with the additional forms

  • For the role of Epoch the conditions are the same and the audition script can be found on the website

  • Important notes to the role:

  • The creation of the character is led by a trans writer and the production will have additional support from a trans creative

  • The narrative does not focus on gender idenity but does celebrate queer joy

  • All recordings will take place in a COVID safe environment. There will be 3 days of table reads and 3 days of recording on the weeks commencing 15th and 22nd of February

Young Vic Neighbourhood Theatre Producer

  • Seeking a producer to run the Neighbourhood Scheme in conjunction with the Taking Part Director

  • It’s all about nurturing creativity and promoting closer links with the Young Vic and local boroughs Lambeth and Southwark

  • You’ll be working with participants 25 and over on initiatives such as:

  • Tickets

  • Community Participation

  • One off projects and workshops

  • Intensive programmes

  • Community Productions

  • They will be all yours to produce at the Young Vic.

  • Permanent 4 days a week

Waterperry Opera Festival

  • Seeking performers and a Choreographer/Movement Director for a production of Peter and the Wolf

  • The production is aimed at families, specifically with children up to the age of 7

  • It will be a 30 minute production which seeks to to create an intimate and immersive experience

  • The company specifically encourages Black and Ethnically Diverse Artist to apply

  • For Performer/Storytellers the company seeks artists with a background in multidisciplinary performance, including a combination of the following: acting, spoken word, dance and physical theatre

National Theatre of Scotland, Paisley People’s Theatre Project - Call Out

  • National Theatre of Scotland and Slung Low are creating an epic piece of people’s theatre with the people of Paisley to be performed in the city of Paisley.

  • A musical about a future we might be heading towards, the play takes place over a whole day in various locations around the city.”

  • They are looking for Scottish or artists based in Scotland to join their creative team, with particular emphasis on anyone with experience working in these fields:

  • Video Artist/Director of Photography

  • Lighting Designer

  • Musical Director (this might include arranging songs, leading the band)

  • Choir Leader (this will involve teaching a large group of people how to sing the songs)

  • Costume Designers

  • Set Designers

  • Associate Directors

  • Fight Choreographer

  • As well as anyone with experience working with large community companies, or experience in making epic political theatre.
